Light and Symmetry

Designed using symmetrical principles, the Mahfouz Project features a men’s and women’s majlis, two light-filled spaces for gathering and sanctuary. Our one-of-a-kind client trusted Yasmin Alsdais Interiors to craft a space uniquely their own. The result is a design that defines separate private areas within a cohesive and harmonious whole. In both majlis, the layout is arranged symmetrically to showcase the view onto a beautiful exterior landscape and to celebrate natural light. The project involved studying light from many different perspectives. In the women’s majlis ambience is created using cove spotlights and accent lighting in the form of table lamps and shelf lights. At the same time, sculptural wall lights and semi-reflective wallcoverings generate warmth in the men’s majlis. In both spaces gold accented statement chandeliers embody the essence of luxurious contemporary ornamentation.

A Fusion of Neoclassical Refinement and Contemporary Art Deco Elegance

In the women’s majlis signature art deco features such as sleek lines, bold geometrical forms and symmetrical patterns harmonize the gathering space. Monochrome accents and metallic brass finishes pop against the soft palette of blush pink and neutral colors. Elements such as the custom-made black and white patterned carpet and framed neoclassical shelving blend contemporary design and timeless elegance. This sense of refinement continues as you journey into the men’s majlis, where the pastel color palette is replaced with warm neutral tones complemented by bold materials such as black marble and antique bronze.  The walls and ceiling are trimmed with gypsum, creating depth and framing the carefully selected lighting and artwork on display.

Creating Luxury and Texture Through Detail

In the women’s majlis, a bespoke artwork enriches the space with texture, its three-dimensional relief surface encrusted with crystal stones. The simple neoclassical form of the sofa is elevated with custom-made fringing. A coffee table with a geometrically patterned base forms a stunning centerpiece that in turn reflects the pattern in the carpet. This attention to pattern and detail is mirrored in the men’s majlis, where the front wall is handmade using wood and shell. This intricately crafted wallcovering is exquisitely tactile and lustrous. The back wall features a landscape, adding dimension as well as splendor to the room. At the core of the Mahfouz Project is a deep attention to luxurious detail, a hallmark of the Yasmin Alsdais Interiors approach.
